Fill the Light event

Eltham Arts have prioritized the wellness of our community by using arts to keep that light of hope shining within our hearts. We invited the community to our Fill the light event to uplift community spirits through making arts and enjoying music.

We invited the members of the community to design lanterns using natural and recycled materials. The participants worked with professional artists learning about a new art form and developing a new skill. They children enjoyed learning the history of Warli art (an old Indian traditional art form) that we used to decorate our lanterns. We all got together with our beautiful lanterns to enjoyed an evening of music and food at Passey Place to celebrate being happy, hopeful and a bonded community.

We would like to thank Eltham Library for their support, our local councillors for supporting us through the project by participating in the workshop and the event. Thanks to our local social media groups and the SE9 magazine for helping us spread the word about the project. We are also very thankful to the Royal Borough of Greenwich for making this happen.

Hello Fill the Light attenders!

We’re looking forward to seeing you on SATURDAY 17 FEBRUARY for the Fill the Light celebration at Passey Place, Eltham – there’ll be live music, yummy food for sale, a display of the What’s on your mind? project so far, and of course – your beautiful lanterns!

·       If you made a lantern during the recent Workshops, then please arrive between 4.00 and 4.30 to collect your lanterns from a gazebo in Passey Place marked ‘Lantern Collection’. You’ll then be ready to carry your lantern and join the sing-along! If you are not there to collect the lantern, they will be returned to the library where they will be stored until 23rd Feb and then discarded.

·       Before you leave the event, please return the light and pole fitted to your lantern to the ‘Drop off’ point which will be marked – you are of course free to take home and enjoy your lantern. There will be practitioners at the drop off point to help you with this.

We’re excited to be joined by some great local musical talent! The timetable for the event will include:

•  Starts 4.30pm – Sing-along with vocalist & ukelele player Tony Tang

•  Then music from Acoustic Folk & Country duos The GilliesPytchwood & combined as Gillywood

•  Make A Noise – Local Choir with songs from the world of Musical Theatre

 •  Ends by 7.30pm

Please be aware that a photographer will be present taking photographs during the event which may be used for promotion and press – please let one of the Eltham Arts team know if you would prefer not to be included.

We can’t wait to see you lighting up Eltham!
